Fit Kits

Fit Kit #1 Fit Kit # 1-Micro Fit Kit #2 Fit Kit #3

A chromatographic union (Fit Kit #1) is available to connect 1/16" OD sample feed to the 1/8" OD special small bore (SB) liquid input or for the HEN.

The Microbore fitting kit (Fit\ Kit #1-Micro) uses microbore 0.004" ID Teflon tubing to dramatically \ reduce dead volume in the sample uptake tubing to the nebulizer

A high pressure gas reducing union(Fit Kit #2) is available to secure high pressure gas delivery to the nebulizer sidearm. Fit Kit #2 can be used on all MEINHARD® nebulizers.

A liquid input adapter (Fit Kit #3) is available for use with the standard nebulizer's 4mm sample input. Fit #3 can be used on all MEINHARD® nebulizers, both new and old.

SPECIAL REQUESTS - If you have unique requirements or an unusual\ application, feel free to call. We can manufacture nebulizers with a wide variety of dynamic characteristics and we welcome your inquiries.

SB Fittings Assembly (Kit\ #1)
Material is Tefzel®

Union and ferrules to connect 1/16" sample tubing to the Small Bore (SB) liquid input tube. Provides minimum dead volume, leak-free seal. For use with SB-modified and HEN-170-AA nebulizers

SB Fittings Assembly (Kit #1-Micro)
Material is Tefzel®

The Fitting Kit #1-Micro is designed for use on the MEINHARD® SB and HEN nebulizers with the 1/8" liquid input tube.  The 0.016" OD Teflon® tubing can be adjusted to fit the individual\ nebulizer.

 Installation:  (Refer to Figure above)
Caution: Do not install connector kit while nebulizer is installed in instrument or spray chamber.
  1. Unscrew the two flangeless nuts on the connector/adapter 1/2 turn or until they are loose.  They do not need to be removed.
  2. Insert the SB liquid input end of the MEINHARD® nebulizer into the 1/8" short nut until it bottoms against the web of the connector/adapter.  Tighten the nut until the nebulizer's liquid input end is held in place.  The nebulizer should be able to withstand gentle tugging and the nebulizer should remain against the connector/adapter's web.  DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.
  3. Insert one end of the ~5" length of 0.016" OD Teflon tubing through the 1/16" sleeve.  Insert the sleeve and tubing into the 1/16" nut.  The tubing should pass through the sleeve, the connector/adapter's web and stop against the tapered portion of the glass capillary.  While applying gentle pressure to the tubing to maintain the contact to the capillary taper, tighten the 1/16' nut onto the sleeve to hold  the 0.016" OD tubing securely.
  4. The connector kit is now installed and the Teflon tubing should be held in place against the nebulizer's capillary\ taper.  The nebulizer can now be installed into the instrument and the Teflon tubing either inserted into the sample or rinse solution for natural aspiration or into the end of the\ peristaltic pump tubing for pumped aspiration.
High Pressure Fitting Assembly (Kit #2)

The high pressure fitting is a nylon Swagelok® reducing union. One end of the union connects to 1/4" high pressure argon supply tubing. (See enclosed Swagelok instructions for installing 1/4" tubing.) The other end is 3/16" and holds the nebulizer sidearm. A small O-ring replaces the back ferrule of the two-piece ferrule. The high pressure fitting easily holds up to 190 psig.

To connect to the nebulizer:

  • Insert nebulizer sidearm through the top of the 3/16" Swagelok nut. Push nut on far enough to expose maria. Gravity can assist assembly by having sidearm pointing up during installation.
  • Push O-ring over the maria on the sidearm.
  • Put the front ferrule on the sidearm with the base facing the O-ring and the conical side facing the union body.
  • Screw the union body and nut together firmly.

Instructions for 4mm Liquid-End Connector (Kit #3)

The liquid-end connector kit is designed for use on all MEINHARD® nebulizers with the standard 4mm liquid input tube. The connector can be installed on any MEINHARD® or Tefzel® tubing adjusted to fit the individual nebulizer.

Installation: (Refer to Figure 1)

Caution: Do not install connector kit while nebulizer is installed in instrument or spray chamber.

  1. Unscrew the two flangeless nuts on the connector/adapter 1/2 turn or until they are loose. They do not need to be removed. The 4mm PEEK  nut is tan in color and the 1/16" Delrin® nut is red.
  2. Insert the 4mm liquid input end of the MEINHARD® nebulizer into the 4mm nut until it bottoms against the web of the connector/adapter.   Tighten the 4mm nut until the nebulizer's liquid input end is held in place. The nebulizer should be able to withstand gentle tugging and the nebulizer should remain against the connector/adapter's web.
  3. Insert one end of the 5' length of 1/16" OD Teflon/Tefzel tubing through the red Delrin® nut. The tubing should pass through the Delrin® nut  and the connector/adapter's web and stop against the tapered portion of the glass capillary. While applying gentle pressure to the tubing  to maintain the contact to the capillary taper, tighten the red Delrin® nut to hold the tubing securely.
  4. The connector kit is now installed and\ the Teflon/Tefzel tubing should be firmly held in place against the nebulizer's capillary taper. The  nebulizer can now be installed into the instrument and the Teflon/Tefzel tubing either inserted into the sample or rinse solution for natural  aspiration or into the end of the peristaltic pump tubing for pumped aspiration.

The aspirated solution should not be seen leaking around the Teflon/Tefzel tubing where it contacts the taper of the glass capillary. If the solution is aspirated faster than the natural uptake of the nebulizer, some sample solution may be seen leaking around this contact point.

Delrin®, Teflon® and Tefzel® are Registered Trademarks of the DuPont Co.
